Retrofit Savings: For many installations, GR Cooling offers a 1-3 year payback, depending on power density, based on energy savings alone. A single 10kW, 42U Rack at 8 cents/kWh will typically save over $5,000 per year in electricity costs.

However, retrofit payback can be dramatically better than just energy savings. Our customers find that they suddenly have more power infrastructure (e.g. generators) because peak power has been significantly reduced. And while average energy savings is large, peak energy savings is even higher, since air-cooled systems can have very large power spikes in the summer.

Greenfield Savings: Because the CarnotJet™ system consumes significantly less peak power than a standard air-cooled system, the GR Cooling solution is often 30-40% less expensive to build. Imagine building a data center with a much smaller generator, smaller UPS, no CRACs, no chiller, and no raised floor! Comparison:  Dielectric fluid-submersion compares favorably to other alternative cooling methods such as air-side economization or liquid to the rack. Generally speaking, we believe that air-side offers little if any net savings for most users when considering combined energy and infrastructure costs.
